The city of Marseille (France) has just inaugurated the first regular line for 100% electric buses. Six buses from the Irizar brand, model i2e, are currently in service on the iconic line 82, which runs between la Canebière and Euromed, passing the Old Port and the new Euroméditerranée business district, among other important points.
These buses incorporate a continuous low-floor configuration with two double doors and an electric access ramp at the central door. The interior layout includes a total capacity of 77 places , with 27 seated, one PRM (for reduce mobility) and 51 people standing.
The bus takes 16 batteries SO- Nickel. In addition, the company has installed in the depots an intelligent charging system, which optimizes the recharging of the six units with great precision. A full charge will give a range of between 12 to 14 hours, about 240 kilometers maximum .
The Siemens electric motors guarantee an output of 230 kW, while the batteries hold a capacity of 376 kW/h, which gives this high range autonomy despite being a large urban vehicle.
This model also has supercapacitors, working as batteries acumulating/delivering electricity in the numerous stop-and-go, a system that allows the main battery of the system to rest.
