Terra Motors Corporation, Japan’s leading innovator in electric two and three - wheelers, delivered commercial electric motorcycle, ”BIZMO II”, on July 1, 2014. BIZMO II is the world’s first electric motorcycle which fully satisfies the needs of commercial use. “With the BIZMO II we are entering into the market of commercial motorcycles,“ said Toru Tokushige, CEO and founder of Terra Motors.

“Traditionally, electric motorcycles were considered a mobility solution for short distances due to their lack of battery capacity  and power. But BIZMOII covers the range of 150km with a single charge, and is capable of transporting a load up to 30kg. BIZMO II is the world’s first electric motorcycle which  fully satisfies the needs of commercial use.

”Increasing gasoline prices worldwide has been impacting those businesses heavily depend on motorcycles. In addition to the cost, loud noise of traditional motorcycles has limited their effectiveness in certain areas such as residential. BIZMO II addresses these problems and offers the cost reduction and quietness.

BIZMO II's maximum range is three times of existing electric motorcycles. The usual electric motorcycle will have battery with the capacity of 48V20Ah (=960Wh), and the average distance for a single charge is between 40 to 50km. BIZMO II has a ternary lithium battery of 72V44Ah (=3168Wh), which extends the maximum range to 150km, three times as far as existing electric motorcycles.

Operating cost is less than one-tenth of gasoline driven motorcycle. Motor’s regenerative function enables deceleration energy to be charged back to the battery. In addition, three types of driving modes are available: high-speed, normal, and energy-saving, which prevents unnecessary power consumption. These features have driven the operating cost down to one-tenth of gasoline driven motorcycles in Japan.

Commercial motorcycles require the designs totally different from personal use. To improve the stability of the ride, rear cargo deck is positioned low. The durability is also enhanced by incorporating steels in the frame. Various optional parts are prepared to suit numerous business applications, such as newspaper delivery, food delivery, secure delivery, and for generic business usage.

BIZMO II will be released at first in Japan, and Terra Motors will be actively searching for the overseas expansion. They are aiming to sell 100,000 unit worldwide by 2015.
