What car could offer the elasticity of a Packard Twin Six, the power of a Hispano-Suiza, the smoothness of a Rolls-Royce, and a virtually lifetime guarantee? The Doble, probably the best car ever built—a steam-powered automobile.
The Double E was born in 1923 and the company remained in business until 1931, but Abner Doble had been experimenting with steam cars since 1914. A luxury car for wealthy people, and completely environmentally friendly in terms of exhaust emissions. Abner Doble perfected every detail, and each unit was handcrafted with great care and perfection, like a work of art. Can you imagine a powerful, completely silent car that speeds by like an arrow and almost no one has seen?
The reason for the very low production—rumored to be around 42 units—can only be found in the lack of liquidity and the eccentricity of steam propulsion at the height of gasoline engines.
Just as the car appeared in its sales catalog, scarce in quantity but full of information and photographs of every detail of the car. A pleasure to behold, in 16 pages, and today highly valued at between €150 and €250.
