4 days left: the countdown for the Storm

Victor Manz Colaborador • 10 Aug, 2016

After 2 years of preparation, the moment is finally here. 23 students from Eindhoven University of Technology will start the greatest challenge they have ever faced: in 80 days around the world on a self-designed electric motorcycle. During this ultimate adventure the batteries are exclusively charged using local electricity networks to show what electric mobility is capable of already.

"On Sunday August 14th, STORM leaves from its homebase for the race against the clock. With a spectacular show, music and inspiring presenters, it promises to be a memorable summer day. We would be honored to leave from a crowded square, in the centre of the city that we owe so much to."

The bike can be ridden for 380 kilometers with one charge thanks to the special lithium-ion battery packs designed by the students themselves.

Top speed is about 160 km/h, and the recharge can be done via local power grids; but battery can also be changed for fresh one in about seven minutes.
