Workhorse presents its electric pick-up

V. Christian Manz Colaborador • 10 May, 2017

The American company Workhorse, located in Ohio, has two important references to create its new electric vehicles: first lives in a city that has a long history in cars and electric vans, and second it intends to overtake the company Tesla, which with so much publicity will also enter the market for vans and trucks. Workhorse begins its journey with a double cab electric pick-up, an electric motor near each of the wheels and a BMW auxiliary gas engine to increase the range.

Workhorse stresses in its presentation, that its W-15 model is mainly designed for small fleets, with the advantage that it is a specific design of an electric car and a structure thought from its origin for this type of propulsion, which gives a different aspect and an apt structure. The company already has experience in transforming electric trucks and supply drones.

The rear and front electric motors transmit their power to the respective wheels - it is a 4x4 - reaching a total of 460 hp. Panasonic's lithium-ion batteries guarantee an autonomy of about 130 kilometers, but a range-extender, an auxiliary petrol engine from BMW, mounted at the front, increases the autonomy about 500 kilometers more, if there is need.

The Pick-Up measures 5,944 meters long with 2,032 meters wide and 1,877 meters high, with a battle of 3,632 meters and a ground clearance of 30.5 cm. The company confirms that it will start production from 2018 and that it already has more than 4,500 firm orders.
